This 2-day seminar is intended to assist those who have applied to take the certification exam in preparing for the exam or who are thinking about taking the test in the future. It is developed and conducted without any endorsement by the BLSE and/or Certification committees. Those who have developed the program have no information regarding the examination content other than the information contained in the exam specifications which are also provided to each examinee. Candidates for certification who take this course should not assume that the course material will cover all topics on the examination or that the examination will cover all topics in the course material.

Labor and Employment Law in the Entertainment Arts and Sports Industries: An Overview
This course will provide information as to the application of labor and employment laws. With regard to labor unions, in addition to explaining the primary basis for the ability of employees and talent to join or refrain from joining labor unions, it will cover anti-trust exemptions which enable restraints on "free agency" under collective bargaining agreements "CBA's" (in sports, music, theater and other entertainment areas); the pros and cons relating to union membership; the various issues regarding bargaining, and related arbitration and enforcement of CBA's; and other issues. With regard to employment laws, it will cover: civil rights and other employment laws, covenants not to compete, and matters relating to hiring, employment, termination, and related litigation relating to talent. There will also be an ethics component related to representing talent.
